Nutcrackers have become a part of the Holiday scene. Have you noticed?
Christmas nutcrackers can be seen in and around the Christmas tree in many homes. The colorful nut crackers add to the joyful decor of the holiday season.

The nutcracker tradition started in Germany. The existing nutcracker tool (to crack nuts) was modified to look like a human figure. In Germany during the long and dark winter months craftsmen were carving all kinds of utensils and artistic expressions in wood. After the initial creation of a few nutcracker characters, soon there were all kinds of nutcracker dolls, from nutcracker kings to nutcracker knights, nutcracker soldiers and jesters. Later this expanded to nutcracker characters from all kinds of trades and walks of life.

German nutcrackers found their way around the world and were soon copied to create the German Christmas spirit. Still the Erzgebirge nutcrackers are the original ones. We have the genuine Erzgebirge nutcrackers in our store!!

Later the mystical figure of the nutcracker came to life in the Nutcracker suite composed by Peter Iljitsch Tsjaikovski. During the holiday season the nutcracker ballet is now performed all over the world. This added to the popularity of the colorful Christmas nutcracker. Even the other non-nutcracker characters in the ballet have been turned into holiday nutcrackers and were added to the traditional Christmas decoration.

Wooden nutcrackers come in all sizes and shapes. They are true collectors items. Some collectors go for any type of nutcracker doll. Other stick to certain nutcracker themes. Whatever you preference is, it is a colorful sight those tens of nutcrackers around the house, or hundreds, or more???
